For starters, the atmosphere is lovely and the service is good.
Not very pricey for a five jumbo set dinner starting from RM33++ and above......salad - soup - main course - tea or coffee - dessert.
However, the food was not as "deluxcious" as its name........Nevertheless, would still recommend it especially if you're bringing a girl for a date....
Do note that they do not serve sky juice. Instead, they serve bottled water @ RM2/bottle if you request for one.
I went there once and have no complains about it. Food was served very fast. Generous portions and reasonable pricing. The taste is not bad too. Most of their dishes are served with kimchi/cucumber, bean sprout pickles. The meat is well marinated to give the sweet taste. The egg is raw but once you mix the rice, it will get cooked from the heat of the rice. Do try if you are looking for a quick meal :)
Doubt it since most of the workers are not even from Malaysia. I believe they just overcharge, not specific to anyone or race, since my friends of ALL Races complain they are expensive.
The price at Kayu Nasi Kandar-Bukit Jambul is very unreasonable.
A simple plate of fried sotong egg can easily cost RM6 where else if you take it with rice plus a piece of chicken it only cost RM7.50.
This really a unreasonable pricing!!!!!
RM6 per plate for a small scoop of fried sotong eggs is really expensive!!!
Furthermore, the indian staff look a race charge!.
If they see Chinese fellow, they knew these race can be easily "katuk"
the price will be more expensive that the same item been bought by other race!!!!!
Look out all you people out if you wear very smart & office looking type go & eat also they will "katuk" habis-habis !!!!
Trust me or else you can go & experience yourself.
So beware Penang-Kia that love nais kandar- Kayu Nasi Kandar is a place that their "pisau parang" is very sharp especially on Chienese Fellow!!!!
Ok.. I guess this should be the only place you could get cheese fondue in Penang but I might be wrong. Let me know if If you could find it else where in Penang... :-)
I like the ambiance of the cafe and the friendly waitress that recommends the food to us enthusiastically. According to her, the cheese fondue ingredient is in a packet sent from Switzerland to Penang. They just heat it up for us. It is expensive for local (RM 75 for two) but it makes sense if comes from so far away and the ingredient incl. white wine.
The cheese fondue tastes much better than the one that I had in Marche in The Curve, KL. You can't find cheese block in it and I enjoy the first 10 bites... Sorry to say, I felt a bit too heavy and a bit too bitter for me after that. I'm learning how to appreciate it - the owner taught me after I finished it. :-D Will come to try it sometimes later.. with a group of friends most likely~
Why no photo? Ok.. I was careless.. I forgot to bring my camera out!! :-p
Since u strongly recommended, I shall try one day. :-)
For your information and also others, I am a bit tight up recently and information update might be a bit slow..
I hope that you all would stay with me still.. :-)
Thanks a lot for you all support~~
I truly mean it..
GanSH is right, the Mango Ice is excellent! I've been there a number of times, and my companions and I have always received very good services from the staff. Staffs are attentive, polite and helpful. I've brought a toddler there a few times as well, and the staff are always prepared: get ready baby seat, pick up the things that were thrown off the table etc.
I can't vouch for other food besides spaghetti marinara coz that's what I will order when I go there. It's really good!
My uncle's family treated us to dinner during CNY. They made reservation for 7.30pm, and when we got there at 7.10pm we were told to wait, since our reservation time is not 7.10pm and the tiny place was packed with diners. At 7.45pm we were still told to wait because some of the diners had finished their dinner but for some reason, they did not want to leave just yet (still wanted to enjoy the crowded atmosphere and hot air even with air-con and fan present). By 8pm, my uncle was at boiling point, and finally when the staff said there was an available space, he was greeted with 8 sour faces.
In the midst of the packed crowd, the hot air, the dirty tables/floor, squashed seats ... the taste of the food was the last thing on my mind. But I don't recall tasting anything bad/good. One exception was the prawn curry. It was very good. That was all I remember about the food.
I won't say it's the best, but it's certainly an interesting change compared to the more 'common' rojak available on the island. Actually the satay shrimps made the paste extremely sweet ... a bit too sweet for me. When I saw the pic of limes, I thought the seller would slice lime peels on the rojak (my fav), so when that didn't happen, I stupidly ask "err ... how much do I pay for the lime?" The aunty looked at me and said "we only squeeze the juice into the paste". Oh.
Yes, I'd have to say the tandoori set is great, also like the Cheese Kebab. Haven't tried the capati though, since get fresh cooked ones at home :). First time I tasted was in Penang Sports Club, not sure if they're still there. What's for sure is they've got at least 3 operating branches, one in Gurney per this review, other in Chulia Street http://makan2food.blogspot.com/2007/03/tandoori-at-kapitan.html and the third one off Queensbay Mall http://makan2food.blogspot.com/2007/07/kapitan-off-queensbay.html.
Links of the reviews and a wikimap link at the end of the review.
Too bad.. This is a good place for gathering with tight budget~ :-D
Don't worry about your lonnnnnggggg review because I would only add a remark to the restaurant title "Closed Down at 2008" to indicate that it is no longer in business... so sad..
I have removed halal sign from Bakerzin.
Terribly sorry for the wrong information provided.
Hopefully this didn't cause any inconvenience for anyone.
Thanks~
It's 'kinda halal' or questionable actually, Since I notice in the menu they also mention some cakes contain alcohol, and we can/need to request if we don't want alcohol or something like that.
